On Tuesday, we will collect the vocabulary sentences, hold a quick review, and have a quiz on Unit One vocabulary words. We will begin our reading of Chinese Cinderella. Please remember to have your novel with you each day. For Thursday, the students have a small presentation in class. They were assigned a topic with 5 questions to research on the internet. They have a worksheet on pronouns they should have completed in class today (Wed.) On Friday, I will distribute study guide questions for them to work on over the weekend. They should read chapters 1-4 for Monday…roughly 20 pages.
This week in English we will continue to work on Amy Tan’s novel, The Joy Luck Club. We will have study guide questions by chapter. We will discuss themes and the author’s purpose in class, where notetaking is heartily encouraged:) Students will be assigned a short topic to research and present in class on Friday. The study guide questions for Section One will be due on Monday.
This week in English we will begin our first novel, The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. Students must have their novel in class every day. We will be discussing the novel and its themes: Courage and Heroism. Students will have study guide questions to accompany each chapter of the novel. They will be learning notetaking skills during class discussion. On Wednesday, we will have our grammar point of the week. There will be novel questions every night except for Wed. when they will have a worksheet. On Friday, there will be a brief quiz on the grammar material.
This week we will be reviewing the date; including the days, months and numbers 1-31. We will also the subject pronouns yo, tu el, ella Ud., nosotros, vosotros, ellos, ellas, Uds. The students will review the conjugation of the verbs to be: Ser. We will also reiew basic descriptive adjectives. We will have a quiz on these things on THURSDAY. There will be homework sheets on Tues. and Wed. After the quiz, we will play Bingo in Spanish. On Friday, we will begin a project that includes description and a review of body parts.
In Spanish we have a worksheet to complete. The students need to memorize the verb to be (in their notebooks) and should be able to respond to the questions: What’s your name: How are your? How old are you? and Where are you from?, as well as give this information regarding their classmates.
In English, we will have vocabulary homework. Pls. have the students bring in their novels Chinese Cinderella to class tomorrow, as I’d like to begin reading in class tomorrow. Thanks, Ms. Christina
This week in English we are working on prefixes in vocabulary. The students have a packet to complete. They will have a quiz on the meanings of the prefixes on Friday. In grammar we are reviewing nouns and the different categories: common, proper, abstract, concrete, and collective. We are also reviewing basic rules for forming plural nouns, and when to add ’s to indicate possession. On Friday, after the quiz, we will begin reading The Red Badge of Courage. Pls. make sure to have the book in class with you on Friday.
On Monday and Tuesday in class we will finish our “likes” and “dislikes” poster. On Wed. we will start our review with greetings, good byes and common courtesy words, as well as the alphabet. Students will have worksheets on Wed. and Thurs. nights.
This week we will be working from our Bedford Guide to Literature in class. The autobiographical essay is due at the beginning of class on Friday…..any doubts?, ask before due date. On Friday, we will start our reading of The Joy Luck Club.
Bring your summer packet to class. We will start discussing the novel right away. There will be a follow up research assignment due next Friday. All guide lines will be distributed in class by this Friday.
