KINDERGARTEN: MATHEMATICS

Kindergartners will develop skills including oral counting; recognizing and sequencing numbers; identifying ordinal position; solving addition and subtraction stories; counting with one-to-one correspondence; sorting; patterning; graphing real objects and pictures; identifying and counting pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters; identifying one half; identifying shapes; covering and replicating geometric designs; measuring using standard and nonstandard units of measure; telling time to the hour and half hour; and using a calendar.

Instructional Components:

  1. The Meeting – calendar, counting, patterning, weather, graphing, time, money, place value, tallying, problem solving, mental computation
  2. The Lesson – new objectives introduced in groups, use of hands on materials, discussions, cooperative groups, questioning, problem solving strategies

Lessons 1-68

  1. Guided Class Practice and Homework – practice of new concepts; side A in class together with teacher assistance, side B independent practice at home
  2. Number Fact Practice – pattern recognition, manipulatives, fact cards, fact sheets, Wrap-Ups
  3. Assessments – oral, written cumulative
